I’m angry at how many chose to vote for manufactured fear at the expense of the rights and safety of others. Immigrants are not stealing your jobs or being allowed to vote. No one is eating your cat. Abortion has never been about the life of the baby. And every time this happens, we feign surprise. “How can our country be so hateful? How can it be so divided?” When was it ever NOT a hatefully divided country, founded on racism and colonialism, what’s yours is mine and fuck everything else? We need to stop being surprised and assuming that just because some white person cries liberal, they may not in fact be one of us. We are seeing the roots of our country start to grow above ground again, allowing the bigotry and racism and misogyny to be re-given their space to fill. It never went away, it just went below ground. And now it’s resurfaced. So now what? Do we keep being surprised? Do we keep being bullied by these assholes who hide behind their guns and obnoxiously sized flags that mount on their equally obnoxiously sized trucks? Do we maintain complacency and comfort so we can protect our cushy daily way of life? Or do WE become the bullies? Do WE take up arms? Do WE become the feared? The German youth did not fight back peacefully. Rebels do not fight back peacefully. They become feral and they become feared. I’m ready to become feral. I’m ready to let that part of my myself rise to the surface because, frankly, millions of voters just showed me it’s time.
